Truthfully, I would have had no idea that this holiday ever existed if it wasn't for the comic by Alan Moore (and illustrated by David Loyd, my hero) and the movie, V for Vendetta. As the nursery rhyme goes:
Remember, remember the Fifth of November, the Gunpowder Treason and Plot. I know of no reason why the Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot.Anyway, this post may seem silly, but in a time when nationalism in not just my country (the USA) but in many countries is in full swing, I feel like it's important to remind people that showing your support (or your irritation) SHOULD be done. How else will a leader or a group of leaders know how you're feeling unless you speak up and say something about it? Have a voice and a say and support what YOU think is RIGHT. Whether it's the Occupy movement or the Tea Party, show your support and be a part of something bigger than yourself.
Guy Fawkes and the other participants of the plot are historical revolutionists, that much is certain. Do I agree with blowing up an entire part of government to prove a point? Not exactly. But do I agree with standing up for what you believe in? ABSOLUTELY.
